Our Approach to Education
Our commitment and responsibility to the learners in our school through our instructional programme, is to enable the learner to persue any chosen career having been grounded at Rabboni Christian School on a God-centred view that all truth is God’s truth and that the Bible is the inspired and infallible authoritative Word of God containing these truths. Having acquired the knowledge of these truths, we trust that our learners will be used by God in their respective communities as catalysts of change and inspiration. Furthermore our responsibility encompasses the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional well-being of our learners. These areas are inseparable from one another as their threads permeate all areas of the learner’s life. We strive to be student-oriented rather than textbook-oriented and base our foundation on the Word of God ensuring that the Scriptures are woven throughout the total curriculum and that the teachings of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour are understood. We encourage learners to use their God-given talents for His glory and provide platforms and opportunities to nurture and display these talents.
This Philosophy dictates that we work closely with parents and/or guardians in every area of their child’s development, always offering assistance in understanding the mission of Rabboni Christian School. Through our interaction with the parents we hope to inspire them to instill our core values of Faith, Unity, Respect, Compassion and Diligence, on which we base this Philosophy, in their respective homes, thus ensuring a balanced child.
As Christian educators we are called to prepare our learners to hear Gods “small, still voice” and to respond in obedience to Him. We will teach the whole Word of God ensuring that the learners are given opportunity to confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour (Romans 10: 9 & 10), demonstrate biblical characteristics (Galatians 5:22 & 23 and 1 Samuel 16:7), develop self-discipline (1 Timothy 4:7 and 1 Corinthians 9:24-27), have a godly respect for and submission to authority (Ephesians 6: 1-3), hide God’s Word in their hearts through memorizing passages of scripture (Psalm 119:11 and Psalm 1:103), treat their bodies with respect as our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20) and walk in love and forgiveness placing the needs of others before their own.
Rabboni Private Christian School opened its doors on 17 January 1995 with 84 students, from Grade 0 to Grade 12. There were eight students in Grade 12. The school started with twelve, accomplished qualified and inspired teachers with Mr. Han Sipsma as the headmaster of the school. Mrs. Morag Askham gave the school its name “Rabboni” from John 20:16 and composed the school song. Rabboni means “Master” or “Teacher”. Mrs. Petro Booysen designed the school badge with the motto “Serving the Master”.
The aim of the school is training learners for effective Christian living. We always try to maintain the Christian character of this school. A spirit of love, cooperation, discipline and hard work gives us the ideal foundation for true, meaningful Christian education. The medium of teaching is English and students of all races are welcome.
Classrooms were initially in the house where Oom Han and Tannie Martie Sipsma live, as well as under the trees. The first classrooms to be built were the Grade 1 classrooms and at a later stage the ablution block as well as the crèche area was developed. Since then the building projects have not ended.
The Lord is our Provider and we thank Him for His faithful undertaking over the years and in the future. We as leaders and the teachers would like to remind you, that we don’t want to portray only the authority figure, but you can always come to us if you need any kind of help. We will go out of our way to help you.
